Pleated Material
Cleer-Air™ Heavy Duty Filters are manufactured with deeper pleat construction than paper filters, which means more filtering surface. This results in improved airflow and reduced restriction. Other products, while attempting to increase surface area, over-pack the filter with excess pleats that choke airflow. Cleer-Air™ Heavy Duty Filters media, with its uniquely designed pitch and proprietary material, allows increased air velocity at the filter face achieving a higher standard of filtration. It improves filter life by allowing for improved dust retention.
The pleated multiple layers of high quality cotton media is sandwiched between two layers of epoxy coated aluminum wire mesh. Specially treated media filters contaminating particles with less physical obstruction than paper elements, while trapping and dissipating moisture. The filtering micro fibers absorb the oil which is wicked throughout the pleated surfaces, suspending particles in the air stream, allowing exceptional air flow properties at reduced restriction levels. The absorbent properties of the oil create a balanced porous structure, using dust and particulate matter to provide filtering over and above the media filtration, sometimes as much as a quarter inch more in depth. The oiled media blends with dirt particles like marbles stacked in a bucket. No matter how many times you add more marbles, air will still flow through spaces between the marbles. Aluminum wire mesh prevents large solid particles from entering or damaging the filtration media and provides a structural support for the filter.
Seal Design
The Cleer-Air™ Heavy Duty Filters features a superior seal design with polyurethane material construction. Poorly designed seals in other products either permit air leakage or distort the filter housing. Many other filters use plastisol or air/foam seals, which over time lose elasticity, resulting in seal failure. Complex curing processes also prevent consistent quality manufacturing of plastisol. Since visual inspection cannot distinguish between a good quality (fully cured) and out of specification seal (not cured), the problem is not detected until the seal fails in service.

Steve:
You asked me to write you a letter you could show to other school district bus fleets, telling them about our experience with cleanable, reusable air filters, so here it is:
It's great once again to be able to obtain the K&N® type cleanable, reusable air filters for our school buses, the ones you now call Cleer-Air™. The initial filters I've had in use since 1986 are now in their 3rd and 4th cleaning, averaging 3 to 4½ year maintenance intervals of 80,000 to 100,000 miles. We have never experienced even one problem or performance loss with any of these filters, in fact the buses with the Cleer-Air™ Heavy Duty Filters can go up the hills to Big Bear Lake at 45mph, while the buses with paper filters can only reach a top speed of 25 mph.
You asked about the air filter interval on the buses with paper filters versus the Cleer-Air™. After reviewing our records, our typical maintenance interval with paper filters is three months – four filters per year, but as you know, with the cleanable, reusable filter, we are going 12 to 18 times as long, and still not reaching more than 20 inches of restriction on our filter minder gauges.
I knew in 1986 that it was a good filter and I still stand behind these filters 100%, 18 years later. With the Cleer-Air™ Heavy Duty Filters I've eliminated 100% of paper air filter waste, reduced labor time and costs, and improved equipment efficiency, but most of all, I've saved the district more than $110,000.
Thanks for maintaining a great product. Sell a lot of these filters— they're great.
